BISB Weekly Update - February 4th, 2022
Message from the Head of School
Sadly, at the close of last week it was discovered that one of our babes had tested positive for Covid. Hence, one of our classes was off school this week and taking lessons at home – we missed them! I want to ensure all parents of our perpetual prioritisation of safety within this school. Further, and maybe because we have been so careful, that this single infection was the only one that has impacted this school to date. Fingers-crossed that our exhaustive attention to cleanliness and isolating classes maintains this excellent track record for classes being in school!
Happily, we hope to reintroduce nap time and a later collection opportunity for PreK children starting after the upcoming vacation. Make sure your babe's teacher know what you wish to do regarding collection after the holiday.
Also, we will commence after school activities subsequent to the next week off school. And, please do watch out for information on the latter that will arrive soon in your email account – as places may be limited and will be allocated on a ‘first come – first served’ basis!
Student Hours – these have been recommenced by invitation only – so please do check CJs, as if a child is in student hours they will need to be collected later than normal from school.
Swimming lessons will be starting after the impending vacation. If parents HAVE NOT said they want their child to be exempted from swimming, we will work on the assumption that the child should swim!
The amazing Wei and Lin have been working on the Chinese curriculum in light of our integrating Chinese lessons into the school day the next academic year. Chinese is such an important language – and I just wanted to remind you of the renewed opportunity for children to take Chinese the next academic year.
Birthday cakes, etc. ONLY IN EARLY YEARS do we allow the distribution of treats when it is a babe’s birthday! BUT!!!! Parents must tell the teacher at least one day before – and be prepared to say exactly what is in the cakes or treats – otherwise, we cannot distribute to the children. Please appreciate that some children have especial allergies – hence we will not allow treats to be handed around unless we have complete assurance as to what the ingredients are.
Alcohol hand-wash allergy – some children have a nasty reaction courtesy of alcohol-based cleansers. If you have such a child – they may bring their own hand-wash to school for their personal use.
Parents of middle school children – here is another reminder of the impending precomprehensive examinations! Please make sure you know when each examination is taking place and remind your babes appropriately – and make sure they study – but get appropriate rest as well!
We were looking at children’s reading development in school this week. Reading is a huge part of learning across the entire curriculum – and a child who has a good reading habit will do well in school. In consequence, make sure you have interesting reading matter around the house – for children this can include comics and magazines – read your babe something funny or interesting in a newspaper – just let them see you enjoy reading. Encouraging a good reading habit should be fun!

At the end of the month, prizes will be awarded for both the top overall classes of readers, and the top individual readers – so find a new book or series, and get reading, Tuskers!
