Message from Head of School & Head of Operations:
Dear TUSKERS's families,
This week is the most happening week in school. We had our middle school students go on their Residential Trip for their 3-day journey. Middle Schoolers will explore the Elephant Secret in the topic of Conservation & Husbandry at Kanchanaburi. The camp itself promotes an integral part of the BASIS Curriculum and through activities such as exploring elephant secrets, conducting nature research, developing teamwork skills and problem-solving skills, gaining management strategies, and various knowledge base in related field.
Our Grade 1 students went on their field trip today at Pa Jeep Farm, where they learned about the sufficiency of organic agriculture, and through activities at the farm, they developed independence and responsibility skills.
The most unforgettable highlight of this week for our community is definitely the Early Years Snowman at Sunset Show today and yesterday. Our tiny TUSKERS were so brave and showed their drama and singing skills on stage. We are very proud of all our students for their courage and patience to make this happen for our school community. We would like to thank all parents for their attendance in supporting this event and parents who extended their support for the costume-making. A special thanks to our Early Years, drama, art, and music teachers, as well as the school staff for their work dedication and contributions to production and costume making, which brought the community even closer together.
Furthermore, we are writing to announce the resignation of our PE teacher, Coach Jose, who has returned home to Spain to take care of his father. We appreciate all the hard work and dedication that Coach Jose has extended to our school, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. Together with our recruiting team in the US, we are in the process of recruiting a PE teacher until we find a right person for a replacement. However, we will rest assured that our PE team and Coach Namita work closely to substitute those PE classes to provide the smoothest transition for our students.
In addition, we are very pleased to introduce our new Mandarin Subject Expert Teacher, Ms. Shaha Yin to our BASIS Bangkok. Ms. Shasha is originally from China, she holds Bachelor's degree in Primary Education and Master's degree in Teaching Chinese. With her extensive experience in International Chinese Education for over ten years, she will be a perfect fit at BASIS Bangkok. Please join us to welcome Ms. Shasha.
As a gentle reminder, we will have a 2024 BASIS Experience Information Session on Monday, December 11th, 2023, from 08:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Blackbox. The 2024 BASIS Experience Program curates both educational immersion and travel with a special focus on the theme of “Making History". This summer travel program will immerse students in Natural History, Science, Technology, and American Academic Life in Washington, D.C., and New York City. Our program is exclusive to BASIS students who are currently enrolled in Grade 3 through Grade 9. Stay tuned for more details at the information session.
Last but not least, before the Winter Break begins, we will be ending next week with a Christmas Carousel for Primary and Upper School and a Christmas Bazaar for Early Years on Friday, December 15th. See you all in school, and let’s celebrate together for the holiday season.
Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend.
Best regards,
Dr. W. and Ms. Kwan

Message from Dean of Primary:
Dear BISB Students and Parents,
Please be sure to read at least 20 minutes per night and practice your math facts over the holiday break. Too much screen time online can turn our brains foggy! Also, parents be sure to be monitoring websites and content that children are visiting over the holiday, to make sure that they are appropriate for their age.
Enjoy time outdoors, playing, and spending time with family and friends this holiday season :)
Kind regards
Dean Selby
Dean of Primary School
Academic Spotlight: History
Dear Parents,
Each week, the teachers and I are excited to bring you a snapshot of the goings-on around our campus classrooms and learning spaces. Today, we'll be sharing a peek into Mr. Dan's history classroom to see what some of our 5th and 7th Grade students have recently been doing. Enjoy!

Director of Academic Programs
Grade 5 Students Impress with Ancient Egypt Presentations
In an inspiring display of knowledge and creativity, our Grade 5 students from Cobalt and Nickel classes embarked on a fascinating journey into the past with their informative posters on ancient Egypt. These budding historians showcased their hard work to our enthusiastic Grade 1 students, bringing history to life with vivid illustrations and engaging facts.
The event was not just a showcase of their understanding of ancient civilizations but also a testament to their growing skills in public speaking and presentation. The students confidently explained their posters, answering the curious questions of their younger peers with patience and clarity. This interactive session highlighted the importance of inter-grade collaboration, demonstrating how peer-to-peer learning can be both fun and educational.
By presenting to a younger audience, our Grade 5 students experienced the joy and responsibility of sharing knowledge, enhancing their communication skills and boosting their confidence. This activity also provided a unique opportunity for our Grade 1 students to learn from older peers, fostering a sense of community and collaboration across different age groups.
Overall, this event was a resounding success, exemplifying our school's commitment to holistic education and the development of well-rounded individuals. We look forward to more such enriching activities that bridge the gap between different grades and encourage a vibrant learning environment.
Grade 7 Students Step into the Shoes of the Roman Senate
In a remarkable display of historical insight and oratory skills, our Grade 7 World History students recently embarked on a journey back in time to the heart of ancient Rome. Embracing the roles of influential figures in the Roman senate, they engaged in a spirited class debate, delving into the contentious era of Julius Caesar.
This hands-on activity saw students assigned historical roles, from Pompei Magnus to Mark Anthony, Crassus to Cicero, and Brutus among others. They brilliantly assumed the personas of these iconic figures, adding life to our study of the Roman senate and its complex political dynamics.
The highlight of the session was the critical debate on Julius Caesar's actions and his ongoing war in Gaul. Students were tasked with deciding whether to condemn Caesar and strip him of power or to condone his actions. This exercise not only reinforced their understanding of Roman history but also honed their public speaking and debate skills.
Meg (Grade 7) shone in her role as the Consul, Pompei, demonstrating leadership and keen insight. Punpun (Grade 7), as the Tribune of the Plebs, brought a unique perspective to the debate. Special mentions go to our guests of the Senate – Iris (Grade 7) as Mark Anthony and Tongtong (Grade 7) as General Crassus – who added depth and drama to the proceedings.
This roleplaying activity was a testament to our students' ability to connect with history in a meaningful way, bringing the past to life with enthusiasm and intelligence.
G8 students delve into the Industrial Revolution Word Sneak
Students were in groups and assigned specific vocabulary about the Industrial Revolution. They had to use the words naturally in a conversation about the Causes and Effects of the Industrial Revolution. Other groups listened and kept score of how many times the vocab words were used correctly. This activity requires students to creatively apply Key Terms and use Communication Skills to explain complex topics to their peers.

We hope this message finds you well.
On behalf of the BASIS International School Bangkok - PE Department, we would like to inform you that due to a family emergency, Coach Pep has had to depart for his home country with immediate effect.
In the interim, I will be resuming his responsibilities until a suitable replacement is found. The PE classes originally assigned to Coach Pep will be collectively managed by the PE teachers.
Please rest assured that your children's learning journey will remain unaffected. We will seamlessly continue from the point where they were introduced to the current unit, ensuring that their PE classes proceed smoothly.
