BISB Weekly Update - January 28th, 2022
Message from the Head of School
We are anticipating commencing longer days with both Prek1 and 2 children starting from 21st February – parents will still be able to collect children at the times we have been using this year – but… it will also be fine to leave your child in school and collect them later in the afternoon. Watch out for information on this as we must know what the decision for each child is - and we very much need a commitment over time rather than changing pick up times frequently.
After school ACTIVE clubs – we have been allowed to start this programme from the above date. Again, please look out for the sign-up sheets as places on these sportsy clubs will be limited!
With younger children – please do practice proper handwashing with them at home. 30 seconds is the usual length of time required – and so necessary during the current times.
All children do the wrong thing sometimes… Frequently, this is to test to see if the boundaries are actually there. In the circumstances where your babe does something wrong – better to actively listen rather than show anger – let them know that there are frequently other points of view in fractious situations, but concentrate discussion on asking how they could have done something to either avoid or deal with the situation better. Do not avoid handing out consequences – the child who has no sense of consequence is a very worrying child!
We know we have many ‘screenagers’ in the middle school – and many online games are worth playing, whilst some others are the way in which children frequently socialize with each other (YES! There are also many awful ones too!). Allow some transition time - and ask them to turn off screens at least 30 minutes before bedtime so there can be a period of sweet relaxation in readiness for a good night’s sleep!
Basic and traditional toys – watching Early Years children this week spending so much time and clearly loving making things with wooden blocks; putting wooden train sets together; playing with a toy cooker and utensils – I reminded myself that children really do not need sophisticated toys and frequently get the most enjoyment from the traditional toys. These toys are about construction – good to foster this capacity within children!
Have a lovely weekend,
Alan.
