Greetings from College Counselor, Ms. Kate Irving
Greetings BASIS International School Bangkok families,
I am Kate Irving, your new College Counselor. I have been in education for over 20 years, and worked as a college counselor for over 10 years. I am currently in my sixth year at BASIS Independent Mclean. which opened its doors in 2016 and graduated our first class of seniors in 2020.
It is my pleasure to now support BASIS Bangkok as we grow the high school and graduate our first class of seniors in 2028. This year, I will support my BASIS Bangkok students and families both virtually and through several in-person visits throughout the year. In July 2024, I will move to Bangkok with my family and begin working full-time at BASIS International School Bangkok.
In my experience, the most successful college applicants are the ones who took advantage of all their education had to offer, followed and fed their passions from an early age, and took the time to focus on and enjoy the journey. In the high school I will work on helping students do high school right so that when it comes time to begin matching with the best fit colleges and building their college applications, students are the best academic and personal versions of themselves.
My virtual office hours, and high school workshop times, will be posted very soon, and you can always message me with any questions. There is so much more to say and do and I am thrilled to start.
Message from Deans:
Dear Parents,
We have had a marvelous start to the academic year! Thank you so much for your support.

If you are sent an invitation by one of your child's SETs, please reply to confirm. Please also note that Student Hours are reserved for providing support for struggling students and should be attended by invitation only. Information about Enrichment Hour, for students already achieving above-level, will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
Please also note that diagnostics are taking place currently, and that more students may be invited to attend Student Hours over the next few weeks.
Best wishes,
Andrew Taylor – Dean of Upper School
Selby Collison Piokliang – Dean of Primary School

Library Corner:
Hello from BISB Library!
I’m Ms. Erika - the librarian at BASIS. I am so excited to welcome students, and soon parents, back to the library. BISB has worked hard all summer to design new literacy spaces that will engage and excite our TUSKERS.
Over the summer, we expanded the library to create a middle grade and up space, designated for our older students. This will give them a space of their own to read, study, do homework, and collaborate on projects, clubs, and events. In addition, we have added a beautiful Reading Room to our early years building for teachers and students to use throughout the week to promote literacy and instill a love of reading.
As we begin the academic year, I have begun adding new books to our collection and will continue to do so throughout the year. These new books will consist of nonfiction and fiction that support our rigorous curriculum, in addition to popular genre books that encourage students to read for enjoyment.
Our TUSKERS have already begun checking out books for the school year. You can see the checkout start dates for students below:
- Week 1: Grades 4 to Grade 9
- Week 2: Grades 1 – 3
- Week 3: BISB Parents & all Primary students
- Week 4: Early Years (Pre-K1 to Kinder)
Please keep an eye out for library books being brought home by your students and please read the Library Use Policy below. Library hours for parents will begin in week 3 on Monday, September 4. Library hours for parents are as follows:
- BEFORE SCHOOL
Monday through Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.
- AFTER SCHOOL:
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Lastly, I will be hosting Coffee Mornings for parents to meet with me in the library and to discuss ways you can support your TUSKERS with their literacy skills.
Meet the Librarian Coffee Mornings are as follows:
Primary Coffee Morning: Tuesday, September 12 at 8:30 a.m.
EY Coffee Morning: Wednesday, September 13 at 8:30 a.m.
Library Use Policy:
Students of all primary and early years grades are allowed to check out books from the library, with the exception of nursery students.
Students are allowed to check out books for one week (7 days) and can renew them for another 7 days. Students may keep books longer per teacher or parent requests.
If students do not return their books to the library, they will be given 3 notices from Ms. Erika – and after that the book is marked as LOST:
Notice 1: verbal reminder.
Notice 2: Note reminder in CJ.
Notice 3: Email to parents about late book.
Lost Book Notice: Book is marked lost & parents are be sent an email with replacement fee.
If books are not returned or are damaged beyond in-library repair, they will need to be paid for or replaced by the borrower.
Please remind your students to be gentle with their books and to return them to the library, so other students can read them.
Thank you,
Ms. Erika
P.E. Corner:
Dear Parents,
I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents who supported their children during the TUSKERS Sports Academies Tryouts this week. It has been a pleasure to witness our young athletes in action, giving their all-in various sports including Golf, Badminton, Tennis, Basketball, and Football.
We have one more to go which is Swimming Tryouts, scheduled for next week on 29th August 2023. Please make a note of this important date in your calendar as we anticipate another round of impressive displays of athleticism and determination in the pool.
We regret to inform you that we were unable to invite parents to observe the tryouts. Our decision stems from our desire to provide an environment free from added pressure for both our students and coaches. We believe this approach allowed our coaches to make impartial selections based on performance, potential, and passion.
Following the conclusion of the tryouts, I will be individually communicating the results to each parent. Additionally, I will provide you with detailed instructions for the registration and payment process for the chosen sports academy.
Once again, thank you for being an integral part of the TUSKERS Sports Academies community. We eagerly anticipate the upcoming Swimming Tryout and are excited about the journey ahead in nurturing the talents and sportsmanship of our young athletes.
Thanks and regards.
Ms. Namita - Director of Auxiliary Programs

We're excited to welcome you and your child or children back on campus very soon. To kick off the smooth transition for this semester, we are kindly implementing a few protocols of the safety procedure.
Our utmost priority at BASIS International School Bangkok is providing a safe and effective learning environment and community. With this, we would like to issue the new parking stickers for all families; thus, the stickers will be used when you need to enter the campus. The stickers are significant to utilise at school that we would need to have all parents cars registered with the school.
You can fill out this form to register your car. Please provide accurate and complete details of your vehicles and attach a copy of your car registration to this form.
