We'd like to begin this week's newsletter with a huge shout-out to all of our amazing parents and families who worked so hard to make this year's Songkran festival a massive success. A school is truly nothing without its community, and we're so thankful for this one every single day. Have a wonderful Songkran break, everyone!

U13 Football Friendly Match vs SISB Rescheduled - 27 April 2023

Academic Competition Updates
HIPPO International English Olympiad:
It is our pleasure to participate in the upcoming HIPPO International English Olympiad Competition 2023, which will be held at our campus. Please note that the registration period for this event is now closed - thank you to all of the families who signed up!
The Preliminary Round will take place at BASIS International School Bangkok on Sunday 23rd April 2023. The time is to be confirmed by HIPPO.
Please expect further communication in the days leading up to the big event. Thank you!
Information Session for Violinists and Cellists
Today BASIS parents & management welcome Kru Aomkhao Wattanasin to our campus, in preparation for the upcoming “Information Session & Open practice for violinists and cellists” after Songkran holiday.
Registration is still open for any interested students to come to this event. If you are interested in joining the orchestra activities in the next academic year, please join us!!
Even if you have never play before, come and find out if this activity could the right one for you. Franke Violins will be offering Violins and Cellos for rentals and to try out.

Special Author Visit for Early Years and First Grade
Dragons, bears, and grumpy sloths – oh my!
On Friday, April 28th the wonderful, local children’s author Nawal Kalra will be visiting BASIS Bangkok for a special literary event for our Early Years and Grade 1 students.
Ms. Kalra is the author of three children’s books titled The Very Grumpy Sloth, The Dragon Went Hmmmmmmmm…, and Not the Only Bear.
After reading her original stories with a storytime, Ms. Kalra will be doing creative, hands-on activities with students focusing on mindfulness and reading comprehension.
The event is hosted by BASIS Library and will be held in our Connections space. You can see the set schedule below:
9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – Nursery
9:45 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. – PreK 1
11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Kinder
12:10 p.m. – 12:55 p.m. – PreK 2
1:15 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. – Grade 1
While parents cannot attend the event due to the large number of student attendees in the space, you can purchase and read Ms. Kalra’s books online or check them out from the BISB Library.

Keep your Tuskers reading over the Songkran holiday!
Hello parents and Happy Songkran from the Library! In addition to a story time video recording for the holiday, I thought I would share some digital resources for you and your readers to utilize over the break.
BISB Library offers a few digital tools for accessing books, videos, audiobooks online.
Firstly, we have Destiny Discover – where you can request library books for pick up for both you and your child. Any parents that would like to put books on hold to checkout from the library, you can access the library catalogue use the Destiny Discover QR code here:
To log in and requests books, you must visit the library in person to register an account with a username and password, or you can email me directly at e.wigren@basis.ac.th and we can discuss the log in requirements.
At Destiny Discover, you can also access and listen to audiobooks, provided by the library.
Another free resource you can use is BookTrust. With BookTrust you can access books online with interactive games and videos. BookTrust is a fantastic resource for read-alongs, for assisting with learning disabilities, and with reading comprehension. No log in or registration is required. Start reading today with this QR:
if you would like to access online books and resources for your students, you can set up a FREE account of EPIC! For Libraries and your child can access 1 book a day.
You can purchase also membership for 300 baht through EPIC! and have access to thousands of popular fictions books on your phones and tablets for both you and your child. You can use the following QR code:

THURSDAY AFTERNOON BASKETBALL
The athletic department at BASIS is proud to announce a new community-wide event on Thursday's from 5:00-7:00 in the gym. We will host a pick-up basketball game for teachers and parents.
