Match Report - U13 Football v Brighton College
23/02/2023
U13 Girls
The Tusker girls took to the pitch with 2 targets:
- To better our attacking performance from the previous match by trying to score more than 1 goal.
- To improve our defending by conceding less goals than the previous match.
The improvement from the last match was immediately obvious, with the girls playing with far greater confidence and demonstrating an understanding of their positions. However, despite the improvement, we were grateful to Ben for making many saves early on! Unfortunately, nothing could stop BCB from taking the lead as we finished the half 1-0 down.
The 2nd half began well and BISB we soon in the ascendance. We continued to press all over the pitch, with Pangpun winning many tackles in defence and moving the ball forwards to Lunge in attack, supported by the midfield 3. Eventually, our pressure paid off as Lunge equalized, followed soon after by a second goal.
BISB continued to defend well as BCB mounted attack after attack in vain, searching for an equalizer and the final whistle was met with shock and relief as the Tusker girls recorded their first ever victory!
Congratulations to: Ben, Thichar, Circe, Pangpun, Lunge, Seiya, Phaey, Ray, TianTian, JiaJia
U13 Boys
Meanwhile, the far pitch held a much-needed rematch for the Tusker boys. Coming off a previous loss to BCB, our Tuskers took to the field with fervor and were able to go up 1-0 early on with a stellar header from team captain, Tata.
However, Brighton would not go down willingly and was able to capitalize on a minor defensive error in order to equalize. The Tuskers responded with newcomer Prann launching a rocket off of an incoming volley. Again, BCB were quick to retaliate and the first half ended tied 2-2.
The second half saw an early goal for BCB, but the Tusker boys were slowly gaining back ground and were given the opportunity for a quality set piece with less than 10 minutes remaining the match. Again, Tata would step up in his leadership and strike a beautiful ball to the top right corner of the goal. Somehow, the BCB goalkeeper managed to block it, but the messaged was received.
Afterwards, Tata would drive down and score 2 goals within just as many minutes, securing a much-needed victory for BISB. Although, it would all have been for nothing if our own outstanding goalkeeper Toto, hadn’t made the quality saves in the end. Several one-on-one opportunities were foiled by Toto’s sheer aggressiveness and great decision making.
Congratulations to: Tata, Prann, Toto, Gud, Punn, Titi, Billet, Panpan, Matt, Thee, Talay, Prince, Auto, Chance.
