Announcing New Staff & Exciting Advancements within BISB

As we welcome in the new year, we are excited to announce the promotion of a few key individuals to leadership positions here at BASIS International School Bangkok. Each of these teachers have demonstrated an enormous commitment to our students, and we are so happy to welcome them to the administrative team.

Mr. Andrew Taylor (Dean of Upper School Program) – Our Grade 4 LET, who has come to us from BASIS Guangzhou earlier this year, will now join the administrative team and work alongside our middle school teachers to ensure our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have all of the support they need to succeed. Mr. Andrew has over three-years experience with the BASIS network and, although he specializes in English, he also speaks fluent Thai. He will transition fully into this role over a period of time, as we welcome our new 4Si LET early next month.

Ms. Selby Ferris (Dean of Primary Program, beginning full-time in August 2023) - Ms. Selby has been with BISB since the very beginning, and has served until now as the Mentor LET for the primary program. Although she will continue to be the much-loved 3Ar LET for the remainder of the school year, her role will expand to include some Dean responsibilities on a part-time basis.

Mr. Nick Irvine (Mentor LET) - Mr. Nick is now in his third year as an LET here at BISB, and steps into the role of mentor for the LET department. We're excited to leverage his experience and collaborative skillset to help guide the efforts of the primary program.

In addition to the above promotions, we also welcome again our new academic staff who joined us this week:

Mr. Ivan Rock (Auxiliary Program Director) – Mr. Ivan has several years of experience teaching in International Schools in the UK, Kenya, China and Thailand. He is a passionate teacher, who believes in inclusion and demonstrates this through his philosophy of "excellence without elitism". He creates opportunities for all students to discover a sport they will enjoy and that will help them fulfill their potential. Mr. Ivan will work closely with both the school management and PE department on developing BISB Sport Teams, Sport Partnerships, and ECA sports programs.

Ms. Jenna Pava (Grade 5 LET) – Ms. Jenna comes from the United States of America. She has been a teacher for several years where she taught science and math, most recently residing in Florida. She is looking forward to teaching Grade 5 Math as well as being the much-anticipated Grade 5 LET.

Ms. Sukveena Suttarporn (TA, Thai department) – Ms. Sukveena has both an undergraduate and graduate degree in Thai Language. She has taught here in Bangkok, as well as in Singapore. She’s looking forward to joining our Thai team of teachers and working with our students.

Chinese New Year Festival - Friday, Jan 20

BASIS will be celebrating Chinese New Year next week on Friday, 20^th January 2023! Our festival this year will be an in-school event for our students and parents. There will also be special Chinese lunch Menu on the day. Parents are invited to see the Lion and Dragon Show at the Sports Field at 08.15 hrs. Gates will open to parents at 08.10 hrs.

We encourage all of our students to wear traditional Chinese costumes or red clothing to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Friday!

Important Note: Please drop your child/ren before 08.00 hrs on Friday, in order not to miss the show!

Invitation to Sport Partnership Meeting with Mr. Ivan Rock - Tuesday, Jan 17 at 3:50 PM

Dear Tuskers Families,

Let me introduce myself as I have not had an opportunity to meet many of you. I am Ivan Rock, the new Auxiliary Programs Director, and I very much look forward to meeting you and having a chance to know all your children through our PE program and sports offerings. I am thrilled to be part of the BASIS team.

We would like to invite you to an information session on the future of BISB Sports’ Program provision at BISB on Tuesday 17^th January at 15.50 hrs in the school canteen. At this session, you will learn more about the BISB Sports’ Program Provision offered and get an overview of our plans to expand and improve our offerings in the future. We will also be presenting new programs and how they align with our mission to provide a well-rounded and comprehensive education to our students.

We hope that you will join this session as it’s the first opportunity to gain perspective on our overall sports program and activities. We look forward to seeing you there.

Open Field for Students & Parents from 15.30 - 18.00, Monday to Friday

Beginning next Monday, the school field behind the Thai House will be open for parents and students after school to stay and enjoy activities, or catch up on homework at the Thai House. Please note that parents need to pick up the students first before entering the campus, and students will be under parent supervision at all times when they are on campus during this period.

ECA Registration for Semester Two

It’s time to sign up for ECAs (Extra-Curricular Activities) for semester 2 at BISB!

Please find the catalog for this semester’s ECA program below. You may register using the online form found here: ECA Registration Link

Registration opens on Wednesday 11^th January 2023 at 9:00 am, and will run until Sunday 15^th January 2023 at 16.00 pm. The link will be closed after 16.00 pm.

Once your registration is confirmed, the school will issue an invoice by Friday 20^th January 2023. Payment must be completed by Friday 27^th January 2023 at 16.00 pm.

ECA activities will commence from Monday 30^th January 2023 to Friday 2^nd June 2023.

School Photo Days & Family Photos, 16-20 January 2023

School photos are next week! Students are requested to wear their BASIS polo shirt for their class and individual photos. Please take a look at the photo schedule below to see which day your child will have their photo taken.

Additionally, parents are invited to book a time slot for family photos between 07.30 – 08.30 AM and 3:30- 4.45 PM, Monday to Friday. Reservations will be based on availability. Please call the front office at +66 2 415 0099 (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM) or send a request through School Line at @bisb to reserve a time.

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Emma Gr 3, Munghung Gr 4 and Nikky Gr 5, who were the award recipients at the National Youth Award Ceremony presided by Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Education.

Emma, Munghung and Nikky were recognized as Thai youths that brought international recognition to Thailand for accomplishments in art, culture and music. We are proud of your hard work and success!

Every Tuesday from 5pm-7pm on the back field. The skill level is a 6/10 so anybody who is very new to soccer might want to come watch first.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON BASKETBALL

The athletic department at BASIS is proud to announce a new community-wide event on Thursday's from 5:00-7:00 in the gym. We will host a pick-up basketball game for teachers and parents.
