Message from the Head of School
Fall Break - September 16 (NO SCHOOL)
Enjoy the long weekend and see you on Monday!
Wai Kru Day - Thursday, September 22
We will celebrate Wai Kru Day this coming Thursday, the 22nd of September. There will be school assemblies on this day, so please remember to send your children to school in their BASIS Polo shirt. Thank you!
Communication Protocols
Whenever possible – always reach out directly to either the relevant SET or, in grades 1 to 4, your child’s LET if you have any issues. For Grade 5 and above, please write to Ms. Ruth. Rest assured, we are able to provide translation – and the teacher concerned will make sure there is the facility if you bring to their attention. We have a standing protocol in the school that requires teachers to respond to incoming emails within 24 hours, excluding weekends.
Please confine your discussions to your child or an issue related directly to your child. Ethics precludes us from discussing any child that does not fall within this criterion.
Be aware that we react to official LINE messages between 07.00 – 17.00 hours, our hours of business, each school day. This LINE channel is for any enquires for non-class related matters. Inevitably, we frequently have many communications from parents and stakeholders. Hence, kindly be patient in awaiting our response.
We freely admit our human frailties – but, we constantly listen and attempt to learn from our stakeholders. We have entered our fourth year of operation wherein the scale of the school has grown a great deal. As such, we are perpetually contemplating the effectiveness of our systems.
Finally, we are all one community. Please treat each other with respect and the same way you would like to be treated.
Edmentum - Exact Path Parent Workshop (September 21st at 13:00)
Save the date for our very first Parent Workshop about our new assessment and at home learning system called Exact Path by Edmentum.
If you are a parent of a Primary or Middle School student, you may have already heard a bit about this program from your classroom teacher. We have just completed our first round of diagnostic assessments and all students have been set on their own individualized learning paths that you can access at home!
But what does that mean exactly? And how can you, as a parent, best support your student in using this system?
These are all questions that will be answered in depth by our school’s very own Edmentum Implementation Specialist, Luke Stratton, during the workshop.
Parent Workshop Agenda:
What is Exact Path?
- Diagnostic Assessments - How we get the data for student learning paths
- A demonstration of student accounts and the three interfaces for K-2, 3-5, and 6-12
- Learning Paths – Math, Reading, and Language Arts
- Teacher assigned pieces of work – Where to find this and how to access
- My Rewards page – Trophies!
- Q&A
To attend, please use the Zoom link below:
Date: 21/09/2022
Time: 13:00pm, your local time

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there!

Student Hours Reminder
Dear Parents,
Due to conflicts in scheduling, Student Hours have been reorganized. In order accommodate all subject areas in every grade, the majority of Student Hours have been reduced to thirty minutes in length.
Student Hours for Grade 1 to 5 now run from 3:30 to 4:00 and from 4:00 to 4:30.
Student Hours for Grade 6 to 8 run from 3.45 to 4.15 and from 4.15 to 4.45pm.
If your child has Student Hour from 3:30 to 4:00pm, please make sure your child is picked up at 4:00pm. Those children who begin their Student Hour at 4:00pm, will participate in a study hall in the canteen, which will be supervised by monitors. These children should be picked up promptly by 4:30. Please note that Student Hours are by invitation only, as teachers must accommodate those children who require the greatest assistance first.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that teachers will write to parents on a weekly basis either by email or in the Communication Journal if your child is requested to attend student hours. If the teacher needs to cancel for any reason, you will be notified.
We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause. Please be assured that the interests of our students are first and foremost, and changes made to the Student Hour schedule reflect our commitment to this.
Sincerely,
Ms. Ruth
Director of Student Affairs
Note from the Librarian
Hello from the Library!
I am Ms. Erika - the librarian here at BASIS. I sincerely want the library to be a space that students enjoy visiting, where they can be creative and curious. I trust our students will leave the library with a love of reading, a curiosity about the world around them, and empathy for others.
Last Friday, our library and teachers partnered to celebrate International Literacy Day, and it was a great success! Our mystery readers surprised pre-K to Grade 3 students with classroom story times provided by teachers they don’t get to see every day. With themes that included scary underwear, monster teachers, and little green aliens, students loved the fun stories our teachers selected for them!
For Grades 4 – 8, we hosted a creative writing class competition! With the assistance of their teachers, each class wrote the story to a wordless picture book from the library. Students had to work both collaboratively and quickly to write the story – all in the hope of winning an opportunity to view a short film and popcorn day in the library! Stay tuned for the winner announcement next week.
A big THANK YOU to all of the amazing teachers who worked with the library to make International Literacy Day a great success!
Ms. Erika
Library Use Policy:
Students of all grades are allowed to check out books from the library, pre-K and K will begin in the next few weeks.
Students are allowed to check out books for a week (7 days) and can renew them for another 7 days.
If students do not return their books to the library, they will be given 3 notes home as reminders to return their books. If books are not returned or are damaged, they will need to be paid for or replaced by the borrower.
Please remind your students to be gentle with their books and to return them to the library, so other students can read them!
BISB Behavior Policy
Dear Parents,
I trust the majority of you will know who I am – as I teach so many of the classes. I am Mr. Andy the Mentor Teacher in the Middle School. I hope you are safe and well. Thank you so much for your support regarding Meet the Teacher. And lovely to be able to meet so many of you in school. I sincerely hope we are able to all meet soon.
It has been wonderful to see students back in school studying hard and being so enthusiastic about their learning! This year we have had some wonderful additions to our teaching staff (Mr. James, Mr. Jason, Ms. Olivia. and Kru Amm), a new school counsellor (Ms. Ritta) and a new fantastic librarian (Ms. Erika) who has been ensuring students are in the library and reading!
We launched our BISB House system today, which is very exciting for all here at BISB - please do ask your son or daughter which house they are in and encourage friendly competition amongst our students. Our four houses are: Hongsa, Naga, Nilmangkorn, and Singha.
We have invested in a new online educational tool called Edmentum which Ms. Melanie is overseeing and this is an excellent resource to help improve student progress in English, math and language arts. Please encourage your child to spend at least 30 minutes per week on Exact Path (Edmentum) for each subject to gain the most benefit.
Please be mindful of our behaviour policy to encourage learning; we require students to have exemplary behaviour around the school and when representing the school in out of school events. Please see the behaviour policy below for your reference:
We really appreciate your cooperation ensuring a safe, positive and enthusiastic learning environment throughout our school.
Very soon we will start our Academic Support program and Peer Tutoring, so watch out for the announcements of these to help support our students in their studies.
I wish you a pleasant and enjoyable rest of the week and weekend.
Mr. Andy
(Middle School Academic Mentor)
