Message from the Head of School

Dear All!

Just two more weeks!   And there is so much happening during that time… Be sure to read the significant dates elsewhere in the newsletter.

Grades 6 and 7 have their comprehensive examinations next week!  Make sure they get sufficient sleep, eat properly, take breaks  - and they approach the exams with confidence and knowing you believe in them.

We appear to have had some Covid-related absences this week-gone…  Please do undertake the ATK tests on Sunday nights – and let us know of any concerns as soon as possible to ensure other families are not travelling to school only to be told the children need to be taken home again.

Any children who need to take medication during the school day – this needs to be brought to school appropriately labelled with name of the babe and the instructions for taking – and left with the school nurse.  Feel free to email the nurse to ensure she appreciates the requirements.

Similar theme  - should a child present to the school nurse with an issue  - say headache or stomach ache, she will not give any ingestible medication to a child without direct intervention from the parent.

We see some extravagant hair bands and the like – and whilst we have an open policy regarding what children wear to school, anything that may be problematic, please discourage your little one from wearing it!

We advise against children bringing in money or other inherently valuable things that are truly not required in school.  Their safekeeping brings concerns, whilst their loss can mean unnecessary heartache and distrust of others.

Be aware that library books should be returned to school as otherwise, we must charge families for their loss.

Looks like there may be a fun exhibition at Aurum Gallery in Warehouse 30 this weekend – Pac-Man villain artwork painted as if they are x-rays – may be a child-friendly exhibition?

This could be a good point in the year to reflect with children on their self-assessments of how things have gone.  The wonderful thing about school is, it offers restarts after the long summer vacations – there is always a fresh opportunity to make a change!

Regards,

Alan.

BISB Field Day 2022 - June 17th

The BISB Physical Education department is very excited to announce the first-annual BISB Field Day for Primary and Middle School students to be held on June 17th, 2022!

Students will partake in a variety of competitions and games throughout the day, building cameraderie and team spirit across classes and grade levels. Each child has been assigned a team and color, which has been sent to families via email earlier in the week. Please reach out to Mr. Josh at j.levenson@basis.ac.th if you have not yet received such a message!

We kindly ask that students come to school on June 17 dressed in a shirt of their team's color, and comfortable clothing and shoes to partake in physical activity.

Due to health & safety considerations, this year's field day event will be limited to our students and staff only. However, we truly anticipate next year's field day and all those in the future to be community events inclusive of our parents and families!

Middle School Announcements

The Comp Exams finally arrive next week and it has been great to see our students studying so hard to be as successful as they possibly can. Having a positive mindset massively helps to overcome natural exam tendencies such as stress so if I can offer any advice, it would be to encourage your child to think positively. Encourage them, eliminate negative talk, replacing phrases such as "I can't do it" with "I can't do it YET" for example. Here is a short video which students will watch and discuss in their final Study Skills session today to help them with this.

Finally, please encourage your child to follow their study timetable, use the study guides provided by their teachers and use the study strategies from their Study Skills sessions to study smarter. I look forward to seeing all of them show off what they know in their upcoming exams and wish them every success in them to achieve their full potential.

If there is anything we can do support you or your child further, please reach out and let us know.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mr. Andy

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Milin in 5Co, who's artwork receieved the Supreme Gold award in the prestigious Pentel International Children's Art Exhibition, against a field of thousands of applicants. Amazing job!

The Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition – is a worldwide international Chinese contest organized annually by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). It provides a significant platform in terms of cultural and educational exchanges.

At present, the Chinese Bridge for Foreign Primary Students 2022 is being held and supported by Thai Ministry of Education and CLEC in Thailand. Our student Plern (G5) will join the contest this year. Here are her introduction and the Chinese art show videos. She is showing us an excellent example in learning Mandarin. We wish her to enjoy this wonderful experience and have a great result. Keep going, Tuskers!
