Message from the Head of School
Dear All,
The end is in sight! We are on the cusp of our last month of this school year, and courtesy of our recent ability to undertake some normality for the children we have urgently incorporated school field trips and other sweet activities so children know that school is more than academic learning (which it very much has to be).
Please note the following!
Grades 1 and 2 performance “SQUIRM’ will be on the afternoon of June 10th! Be sure to register for seats via the online form that is in the newsletter!
Moms and dads can walk and collect children from the main gate – of course, you can park in the underground lot. Just make sure you bring you school id – your lanyard with you! (Next year we truly hope to let parents enter the school premises and we can dismiss from within the school environment.)
FIELD TRIPS NEXT WEEK – PK2 on Wednesday. Kinder on Thursday.
Next Friday – no school as Thailand celebrates H.M. the Queen’s birthday!
Congratulations to Chadchart Sittipunt – Bangkok’s new mayor!
The House of Illumination may be a fun visit with children this weekend? Appears to be Space Odyssey themed and child–oriented – and finishes at the end of this month.
Apparently, babies are born with around 100 billion brain cells - and they need to form connections through life experiences. Do your best to offer your babes positive family interaction, especially in the early years. They will then have the ability to experience positive experiences themselves and offer them to others.
Regards,
Alan
Grade 1 & 2 Musical Performance
What are the things that make you squirm? Our grade 1 and 2 students have been hard at work learning how things that are creepy and crawly can actually be good for us!
We would like to invite you to our production of Squirm! A Wiggly, Giggly, Squiggly Musical on 10 June, 2022 at 14.00 – 14.45 hrs . Please join us in the Black Box theater to see our students transform into worms, snakes, bats, and spiders. Doors will open at 13:30 hrs and the show will begin promptly at 14:00 hrs.
Please RSVP through the Online Registration Link here: https://forms.gle/KDQA7FWiZRSoVoUF8
On the day of the performance, we kindly ask that your child comes to school prepared with black pants and a solid color shirt. The shirt colors are determined by class. Please see each class's color below:
1Mg: Green (snakes)
1Ca: Pink/Brown (worms)
2Li: Gray (bats)
2K: Black (spiders)
And now for a special message from Ms. Dash:
The 1st and 2nd Grade Mini Art Show will be on display outside the Black Box Theater on the day of the live production, Squirm. We invite you to go take a look at the art after the show is completed! The young artists look forward to sharing their artistic accomplishments with you!
Regards,
The BISB Fine Arts Team
Comp Exam Q&A with BASIS International School Hangzhou
Dear Parents of 5th 6th and 7th Grade,
Next week, students in grades 5-7 will be invited to attend a Comp Exam Q&A session with grade 7 & 8 students from BASIS International School Hangzhou, China. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to ask for advice and tips from experienced students, giving them invaluable insight into the upcoming comp exams. The date is to be confirmed, but provisionally is Wednesday at 15:45 in the Connections space outside the library. Please encourage your child to sign up to this event if they want to hear from students that have previously mastered the exams.
Study Skills Sessions
Students in grades 5-7 are about to finish their 6-week study skills session program. Mr. Manuel and I have thoroughly enjoyed helping the students become more effective at studying. The program consisted of:
- Organization (students were provided a folder for their revision organized by subject)
- Mind mapping (a visual and effective way to map out topics and units)
- Flash cards (for quick reviewing of materials and self or peer testing)
- Notetaking (students learned how to take outline notes, Cornell notes & the SQ4R technique)
- Personal learning checklists (to prioritise which subjects and topics they should study)
- Review week timetable/plan (to allocate and improve time management appropriately)
- exam tips (how to be smart in exams and give yourself the best chance of success)
- Exams and mental health help (sessions on how to cope better with the pressures of exams and school life)
Please encourage them to use the strategies they find the most effective for them.
Thank you for your help and support with your child's learning, it has been a pleasure teaching and reviewing these skills with them and I can't wait to see them demonstrate their amazing knowledge in their upcoming exams.
The electronic resources for these sessions can be accessed by students through Schoology using this access code: ZWXJ-9S2B-X2376.
Many thanks,
Mr. Andy
