BISB Weekly Update - May 13th, 2022
Message from the Head of School
Dear Families,
We have seen some sweet musical performances from children this week! Lovely to see the accomplishments of so many children! We approach a long weekend – remember school is closed on Monday - and be sure to enjoy your weekend!
If you have a 6th or 7th grader – check in with them regarding their degree of preparation for the upcoming comprehensive examinations. These children need an organized space to study and a revision plan – each will immediately remove much stress! It can never be too late to get organised!
We have seen Covid affect classes this week – poor Grade 2K had 4 cases within the class last week. Hence, we needed to undertake more comprehensive quarantine precautions. They will be back in school next week. We had single cases affecting the babes in both 2Li and PK1H.
There has been a change in quarantine requirements – when somebody is regarded as ‘high risk’ they only need to stay away from school for a period of 5 days (it was previously 7 days).
Please do read the more comprehensive information elsewhere in this newsletter that discusses the alterations in the formal protocols in connexion with Covid quarantining.
Toby Walker, Vice President, BASIS Independent Schools, will be in school next week. He will have a coffee morning on the Thursday. If you have questions for him, be so kind as to send them to Miss Pla at p.klangsiri@basis.ac.th. Look forward to seeing both him and you next week!
We are aware that parents of the children who take optional Chinese have some queries regarding the future of the programme? In consequence, we will discuss any worries with all interested parties after Toby’s coffee morning next Thursday.
Field trips; happily we are organising some trips for the children – if you have been sent a consent form, be so kind as to return it as soon as possible!
I understand that there are elections in Bangkok? Do take the time to explain what these are to the children as so good they appreciate the concept of community and how changes for the better can be undertaken.
Looks like there is a comics festival that may be interesting to some of our children - and I suspect parents? It appears to be on the 5th floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre - maybe check out if it is appropriate for all age groups.
Alan.
Updated High-Risk Quarantine Protocol
Beginning next week, we will adjust the "high-risk" exclusion period from seven days to five days. If any of our students are in close contact with a positive COVID case, they will be required to remain at home for a period of five days and then take the ATK test before returning to campus.
Upcoming Coffee Mornings
On Thursday 19 May at 08.30 – 09.30 hrs: "Meeting Mr. Toby Walker, Vice President of BASIS in the USA on the Progress of this School, the BASIS Credo and Look Forward to our Children’s Futures" - For all Grades. To RSVP, please register on this online form: https://forms.gle/qfepGTgHr5V4h3Vv7
If you have any specific questions for Toby, it may be prudent to send those in order that he can provide a truly comprehensive response. Therefore, send any questions for Toby to Miss Pla at her email at p.klangsiri@basis.ac.th.
Also - any parents who want to chat about the proposed initiatives for Chinese lessons in the school, commencing next year - we anticipate discussing that once Toby's big meeting is concluded.
Student Spotlight
A huge well done to BASIS Students who recently received honor certificates in the ASEAN Short Video/Chinese Song Competition 2021 held by the Chinese Bridge. This is an incredible achievement!
Congratulations to Sue (G7), Punpun (G4), Emma and Bua (G2). We really appreciate their efforts in constantly rehearsing practicing and we sincerely hope they push themselves and accomplish even more in the future.
