Message from the School:
Dear BASIS Families,
On Monday, we had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from ONESQA (Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment) to our school. It was an honor to showcase our learning environment and share how our school community is continually striving for excellence. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the parents, students, and teachers representatives who contributed to this visit. Your participation was instrumental in representing the values and strengths of our school.

Also, on Monday, we celebrated the ECA Showcase, a joyful wrap-up to this year’s extracurricular activities. It was heartening to witness our students' growth, creativity, and enthusiasm across so many different interests.

On Thursday, our Kindergarten students participated in a special Buddy Lunch with Grade 1 students. This heartwarming activity was designed to help ease their transition to Primary school. They enjoyed lunch together in the canteen, giving them a chance to grow more comfortable with the next step in their school journey.

Yesterday, we also held “A Magical Mystery,” a Harry Potter-themed escape room experience that blended the wonder of the wizarding world with the thrill of solving mysteries. Students were sorted into their Houses and played a fun game of Quidditch on the field. It was wonderful to see our students collaborating creatively and enthusiastically throughout the event. A huge thank you to Ms. Erika, our librarian, and to all our teachers and staff who made this magical event possible!

Last but not least, we’re excited to share that our Early Years Open House will take place tomorrow, Saturday, May 24. If you have friends or family who may be interested in learning more about our Early Years Program, we warmly invite you to encourage them to attend. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience our learning environment firsthand.

Warm regards,
BASIS International School Bangkok

BASIS EXCHANGE Program Information Session – June 6
Dear Grade 8-10 Parents,
We are delighted to introduce our first-ever BASIS EXCHANGE program, an exciting new opportunity for our students and families! This program, taking place next academic year in October 2025, will offer our current Grade 8-10 students the chance to participate in a student exchange with our sister school in California, USA.
Through this unique experience, participating students will broaden their global perspectives, build lifelong friendships, and immerse themselves in a new academic and cultural environment. In addition, BASIS Bangkok families will also have the opportunity to volunteer as host families, welcoming visiting students from the U.S. into their homes and enriching their own family's cultural experience.
To learn more about the program details and how to become a host family, we warmly invite you to join our Information Session on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to engage globally while strengthening connections within the BASIS network. We look forward to sharing more with you and answering any questions you may have.
Warm regards,

Early Years Newsletter
Dear Families,
Last Friday, our PK2 students proudly showcased their storytelling talents at the Publishing Party! It was a joyful celebration of their growth as creative writers and thoughtful illustrators. We are so proud of the hard work and imagination they poured into their books.
As we turn the page, our focus shifts to the Early Years Musical on Friday, May 30. Rehearsals are in full swing, and the excitement is building! Please note that due to our two performances schedule and the need to keep students on track for snack and lunch, we will not be able to accommodate individual photo opportunities that day. We appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to share this special day with you!
Ms. Annie
Director of Early Years
Primary, Middle School and High School Newsletter
Dear Upper School parents,
Next week is the final COMP exams starting on Tuesday. We understand that you and many of your children may feel nervous about these exams and will be motivated to continue reviewing over the weekend. Though we recommend some consistent review each day, we would like to ask your support to ensure that your child is also getting enough rest and enough sleep, as these factors are equally important to their success at school and overall mental and physical health.
Over the weekend, we also recommend that you encourage your child to engage in one of these specific self-care activities during each day.
- Physical exercise and movement
- Creative expression via art or music
- Positive social interactions with friends and family
- Mindfulness, breathwork or meditation
If you have concerns about your child’s health or practical preparations for the upcoming exams, please reach out by email.
Best regards
Dean Andrew
College Counseling Corner
Greetings BISB Community,
Welcome to the College Corner, a snapshot of the College Counseling process at BASIS International School Bangkok.
It’s been a productive spring, and we’re proud of what our Grade 9 and 10 students have accomplished. Here’s an overview of what has already been completed, and what’s coming up next as we continue preparing for key college admissions exams.
PSAT, SAT, & TOEFL for Grades 9 and 10

From AP to SAT
Many students recently completed their AP exams, a major academic step. Since both the AP and SAT are created by the College Board, the skills developed; reading carefully, writing clearly, and thinking critically, carry over directly to the SAT. These same skills also support strong performance on the TOEFL, especially in reading and writing. AP is already helping students get ready for what’s next.

Grade 9
- Attended the “Understanding the TOEFL” workshop today, with recommendations for prep and where and when to take the exam
- Next week, on Monday, May 26, students will be introduced to the PPSAT and begin preparing for the practice exam
- Upcoming PPSAT (Practice Preliminary SAT) on Wednesday, June 4
Grade 10
- Took the PPSAT last June
- Took the PSAT in October, with many students performing well.
- Attended the “Understanding the TOEFL” workshop today, with recommendations for prep and where and when to take the exam
- Next week, on Monday, May 26 and Tuesday, May 27, students will be introduced to a personalized summer SAT prep plan using Khan Academy’s free platform
Coming Up in August: SAT Boot Camp for Grade 11
Rising Grade 11 students will have access to a two-day SAT Boot Camp on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17, designed to help them review key content and strengthen their test-taking strategies before the Saturday, August 23 SAT.
Keeping Students on Track
We’re committed to guiding students through every phase of the testing process. With APs behind them and PSAT/SAT prep well underway, they are already building the skills needed for success. Our goal is to keep that momentum going, with consistent support and clear next steps.
Please reach out with any questions, or if your student would benefit from additional guidance.
Best,
Ms. Kate Irving
College Counselor
Coffee with Kate ☕

We look forward to seeing you there!

Library Corner
Hello from BISB Library!
Thank you so much to the parents that supported and turned out for A Magical Mystery escape room. With colorful potions, future readings, quidditch, and delicious Butterbeer, we had so much fun! It was wonderful to see students working together, engaged, and enjoying a shared love of the Fantasy genre! All attendees earned house points for their hard work. This event wraps up the final library activity for this year and I am so thankful for your support and encouragement throughout the year. I look forward to next year’s events!
This week, students have continued learning about magical creatures as we explored the lore of dragons! We laughed out loud together as we read the story, How to Dress A Dragon by Thelma Lynne Godin and Eric Barclay and explored different versions of dragon mythology. Next week we will explore our final mythical creature: mermaids!
Moving into next week, please be reminded that students will no longer be able to check out library books as Monday, May 26th kicks off return week. Please make sure your students' library books are returned no later than Friday, May 30th. Any unreturned books will be marked as lost and will require a replacement fee, as per our school’s replacement policy. All overdue/lost book notices will be sent out next week and during the first week of June. Please email me if you have questions regarding lost or damaged books.
Lastly, to keep students reading over the summer and to avoid the summer slide, please find the library’s summer hours below!
Thank you and happy reading,
Ms. Erika
Librarian

ECA Corner
Today marks the final day of our ECAs for this semester and the Academic year. It has been a joy to watch our students explore new interests, strengthen their talents, and grow both personally and socially through a wide range of engaging activities. We sincerely hope your children have enjoyed their ECA experiences as much as we have enjoyed supporting them on this journey.
As our ECAs have come to an end, we kindly ask that you ensure timely pick-up of your children starting next week, as ECA supervision will no longer be available.
To celebrate the students' hard work and achievements, we have put together a short video showcasing highlights from our ECA clubs this semester below.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We look forward to many more enriching opportunities in the next Academic year

Music at the Thai House
As a wrap-up for the String Orchestra ECA, the group will hold a final performance at the Thai House on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 5:30 PM.
The performance will feature the Thai song Ta San Klom ("Round Eyes") to celebrate the school’s motto, “locally rooted, globally connected,” as we bring the school year to a sweet close.
