Message from the School:
Dear BASIS Families,
First and foremost, congratulations to all our TUSKERS on their incredible achievements this Trimester 2! At the Award Ceremonies, we had the joy of celebrating their hard work, academic success, and personal growth. We’re so proud of each and every one of them and can’t wait to see what they will accomplish next. Well done, TUSKERS!

Next week, the week will be packed with fun activities of our Book Week, including author visits, a book fair with Kinokuniya and Asia Books and Creative Storytelling Showcase! There are some special activities for parents too, so don’t miss out!
We will kick off the week with a red carpet walk on Monday morning to welcome our students in style! We encourage everyone to dress up as their favorite book characters and snap some fun photos at the backdrop in front of the Main Gate turnstile. Early Years students are invited to join the fun as well, parents can send them off at the front gate for a quick photo opportunity. Kindly check the poster below and Library Corner in this newsletter for all the details.

As part of Book Week, we are also hosting our International Day Celebration on Friday, March 21st, during lunchtime for students. Led by our amazing Parents Association and teachers, this event gives our TUSKERS a chance to explore a variety of delicious foods and snacks while enjoying fun activities from around the world. It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our school’s diversity and global spirit.

Lastly, a quick reminder for all Kangaroo Math participants, mark your calendars for Sunday, March 23rd, 2025! More details about the competition will be sent to parents via email next week.
We look forward to celebrating a week full of stories, creativity, and cultural connections with you all!

Library Corner
Hello from BISB Library!
To start, I want to give a special shoutout to our Kids Lit Quiz team members for their effort, teamwork, and collaboration in today’s Kids Lit Quiz competition at Harrow International School. These students spent months reading new and classic stories, studying authors, and completing practice quizzes to prepare. We are so proud of them for how well they did in today’s competition representing our school! Out of 49 teams altogether, Team 1 (Chicken Nugget Potatoes) came in 12th place - Amazing job to Narvy, Alex, Megan, and Bond. Team 2 (The Famous Four) came in 28th place - Awesome job Tham, Mona, Emma, and Bua! And Team 3 (Ms. Erika’s Divas) came in 23rd place - Great job to Nina, Tina, Gutjang, and Anya. We are so proud of our book-loving TUSKERS!

This week in the library, we continued our discussion of authors and illustrators with both Early Years and Primary students. This week we were introduced to author and illustrator, Aaron Blabey, most known for his junior graphic novel The Bad Guys. For students in EY and Primary, we read and Blabey’s hilarious story about a dog who needs to learn how to share titled Pig the Pug.
Secondly, please refer to the events and planning flyers below for Bookweek 2025 on March 17th – 21st! There are a variety of activities happening throughout the week including author visits, a book fair with Kinokuniya and Asia Books, a Creative Storytelling Showcase, and in Bookweek tradition, a Spirit Week!
Lastly, please note that the library will be CLOSED on Thursday, March 20th for the Creative Storytelling Showcase, and Friday, March 21st in preparation of the Grades 4/5 sleepover.
I look forward to seeing you all next week for our Super Story Time, Teddybear Story Time, and Storytelling Showcase!
Thank you and happy reading,
Ms. Erika

Academic Spotlight
We are thrilled to share that our 6th-Grade students recently completed a fascinating brain dissection lab in biology class. Using pig brains, which closely resemble human brain anatomy, students had the opportunity to explore the structure and functions of the brain up close. They carefully examined different parts of the brain, such as the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem, gaining valuable insights into how these components work together to control various bodily functions.
The lab provided an engaging and educational experience, allowing students to apply their classroom knowledge in a practical setting. We were impressed by their curiosity, teamwork, and attention to detail throughout the process. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to deepen their understanding of human anatomy and the nervous system in a memorable and meaningful way!

Facilities Update: New Communication Board
Our school has just installed many of these communication boards around the school. We hope these boards will be where ideas and knowledge are expressed and flourished; community events or joyous occasions are communicated and celebrated. Please be patient as our academic team & communication team are working together to present content on these new boards.
The boards are functional and efficient as they are made of a specialized imported sound deadening punch board material. This material is durable and environmentally safe while at the same time will help to reduce noise levels and noise pollution around the school.
Our school is committed to use materials and systems that are safe for the health of our students and staff as well as durable and safe for the environment. This project was initiated to help our BASIS community communicates better while improving the environment around campus as part of the Continuous Campus Development.
