Message from the School:
Dear TUSKERS families,
We wrapped up Semester One with festive spirit in every corner of our campus!
This week, we witnessed the incredible talents of our young TUSKERS during the Winter Show performances by our Grade 1-5 students and the magical Christmas Concert. Each performance was a testament to the dedication, hard work, and creativity of our students. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our wonderful Art Department and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring these unforgettable performances to life. (Please enjoy the full photo album in the "Picture of the Week" section of this newsletter)

Yesterday, the Winter Wonderland Bazaar, organized by our amazing Parent Association, was a beautiful celebration of community spirit. The event brought festive activities and joy to all BASIS families. We are deeply grateful for the time, effort, and love our Parent Association poured into making this event such a success. Thank you for your unwavering support!

Today, our Early Years students experienced their very own Christmas Bazaar and a delightful visit from Santa. From Christmas storytelling to ornament decorating, face painting, and festive games on the sports field, their day was filled with wonder and joy. Watching their excitement reminds us of our commitment to fostering a learning environment where discovery and fun go hand in hand.

Finally, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to you, our parents, for your continuous support and participation in making this semester so special. To our incredible teachers, thank you for your unwavering dedication to our students, and to our hardworking staff, we appreciate all that you do to ensure every activity at BASIS runs smoothly and successfully.
As we bid farewell to 2024, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May this holiday season bring you joy and cherished moments with your loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on campus on Monday, January 13th, 2025.
Reminder: Importance of Attendance and Respect for School Days
We would like to remind all parents of the importance of adhering to the school calendar and maintaining regular attendance.
While we understand the value of family time and travel, extending holidays beyond the scheduled school breaks can disrupt your child’s learning progress and overall discipline. We kindly ask all families to ensure that their travel plans align with the holiday dates provided in the school calendar. This will help avoid unnecessary absences and ensure a smooth continuation of learning when school resumes.
Thank you once again for your cooperation and understanding.
Warm regards,
BASIS International School Bangkok

Early Years Newsletter:
Dear Early Years Families,
As the holiday season approaches, I want to take a moment to reflect on the joy, growth, and milestones we’ve shared together this term. It’s been such a delight to witness your children’s curiosity, creativity, and kindness blossom in our classrooms. Each day, they remind us of the magic of learning, and it is truly a privilege to walk alongside them on their journey.
As we head into this winter break, I hope your homes are filled with warmth, love, and laughter. May this time be an opportunity to pause, connect with one another, and create cherished memories together. Whether it’s through cozy moments at home, exploring the world beyond, or simply embracing the holiday spirit, I wish you all a season of joy and peace.
On behalf of our entire Early Years team, thank you for trusting us with your children and for being such a wonderful part of our school community. We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to welcoming you back in the new year with exciting adventures and opportunities to learn, play, and grow.
Wishing you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
With warmest regards,
Ms. Annie

Message from Director of Academic Programs
Dear Parents,
Nearly break time! I wanted to include a few items here to keep in mind as we head into winter break.
- G1-10: You’ll be receiving Progress Reports this week. These are just a snapshot of the teachers’ gradebooks – they do not include comments. The Progress Reports give a baseline indication of performance, but teachers are always the most knowledgeable about you child’s progress. Please reach out to the teachers if you have specific questions about the contents of the Progress Reports.
- G6-10: I am sending a separate email to all of you called AY25-26 Course Preferences, where we aim to collect your interests and ideas about our course offerings for next year. This survey is stage 1 of our data collection, which will help us before we send the Course Registration Form in February.
- G9-10: Our high school math courses will be split following the break. If your child is invited to join one of these groups, you will receive further communication from the teacher. If you do not receive any private communication from the teacher, your child is encouraged to remain in their current class. However, if you want to change track without invitation, please email me and the teacher and we will speak to you about changing.
- G6-8: Pre-Comp review week will take place from January 21-27, and the exams are taking place from January 28-30. We will publish the exam schedule following the winter break. If you have questions about preparation or review, please contact Dean Drew or myself.
Please do let me know if you have questions or concerns. Wishing you all a wonderful break.
Best wishes,
Mr. Ian

College Counseling Corner:
Greetings BISB Community,
Welcome to the College Corner, a snapshot of the College Counseling process at BASIS International School Bangkok.
Thank you to all who joined our parent coffees this week. We wanted to ensure everyone started their break ready to relax and rejuvenate for the new year. While there is no College Counseling homework over the break (except for Grade 10) I hope you spend this time thinking about the past year with your child and planning for the future. This summer, for anyone in Grades 8-10, will be essential in broadening horizons and enhancing portfolios. Discuss your options and I will be here to help with applications when you return.
All Grade 9-10 students have received personalized summer recommendations. A few students in Grade 8 have asked for suggestions, and I have shared specific programs that fit their interest as well as popular search engines for finding that perfect summer enrichment opportunity. Here is that information for all of you.
- Programs available on US campuses can be found at
- Free online learning is available through programs like Coursera and EdEx. Oxford Scholastica has online and in-person options.
- The Teen Life website highlights a variety of summer programs available as well.
There are fewer opportunities available for students in middle school because of their age. I recommend attending the BASIS Experience and maybe supplementing your child’s summer with one of these suggestions for students age 14 and under.
In Thailand
- Volunteer Bank (activities for the whole year)- https://jitarsabank.com/
- Volunteer Opportunities in Thailand - https://www.volunteerspirit.org/
Abroad
- https://www.issos.com/international-summer-school/yale/
- https://learnmore.duke.edu/precollege/summer-residential-program
- https://pty.vanderbilt.edu/for-students/vsa/
In January, I will begin my 1-1 meetings with students in Grades 8-10. We will discuss summer options and plan out their schedule for next year (and options through to graduation). When it comes time for students to register for their 2025 courses, I will also meet individually with families to discuss course choices. Deciding on courses, careers, and colleges is complicated and can be quite stressful. I am here with you every step of the way. Think of me as your own private consultant who also knows everything about the BASIS Curriculum, summer opportunities nearby and far away, and the university application process to every university on the globe.
In Wednesday’s assembly we also handed out the first round of certificates for the high-school community service programs. Here are some photos of the event.
Have a lovely break.
Thank you,
Ms. Kate Irving
College Counselor

BASIS Teachers Shine at the Banyan Tree Vertical Marathon! 🎉
Our very own Coach Phillip, Mr. Kumi, and Coach Paul showcased their determination and endurance as they represented BASIS at the Banyan Tree Bangkok Vertical Marathon, conquering an astounding 1,093 steps to the rooftop!
This annual event, held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali, supports the HIV Formula Feeding Fund of The Thai Red Cross Society. Combining fitness and charity, our teachers rose to the challenge while inspiring the community to make a positive impact.
Adding to the achievements, Coach Paul impressed everyone by completing an incredible 3km swim in just 47 minutes! His dedication to aquatics serves as an inspiration to our BASIS community and reflects the true spirit of perseverance and excellence.
A huge round of applause to our amazing teachers for their hard work, passion, and commitment to both fitness and giving back. Let’s Go TUSKERS!

Library Corner:
Hello from BISB Library!
Thank you so much to the students and parents that turned out for the Library’s Holly Jolly Christmas Story Time. I always love seeing our students engaged in stories and excited to visit our library – especially when they’re wearing cute pajamas!
I would also like to announce that our students in K – 3 have completed the Global Read Aloud 2024 and their handmade postcards are on their way to schools in India and the United States! We should be receiving postcards from these schools throughout January and February, so I will be sure to hang those up for the community to see and read. With the completion of our first Global Read Aloud, students also voted for their favorite of the six books we read, choosing Lift by Minh Le and Dan Santat! This book is wildly imaginative and colorful, so it’s no wonder students loved it. It is available for checkout in the library, and I highly encourage the community to read it – as well as the other Global Read Aloud 2024 books.
Finally, as we head into the winter holidays, I want to thank you all within our community for your participation and support this term of library events, activities, book clubs, and for encouraging your TUSKERS to grow into lifelong readers! I also want to thank my amazing Library Assistants for their hard work and enthusiasm this term.
Please continue to encourage your students to read over the holiday and utilize the reading lists provided in last week’s newsletter.
Thank you all. Have a lovely Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
Happy Reading,
Ms. Erika
