Message from Head of School & Head of Operations:
Dear TUSKERS families,
We would like to extend our appreciation for your participation in the BASIS Football Festival last Saturday. Despite the rain, the enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed truly made the event memorable. We hope everyone had a fantastic time! Kudos to all our players and congratulations to the teams who won trophies. We are already looking forward to next year's Football Festival at BASIS Bangkok.
This week, our Grade 9 students achieved a significant academic milestone by completing their first AP World History and AP Physics examinations. We commend their hard work, perseverance, and dedication in pursuing these challenging subjects. Well done, 9th Graders!
Last but not least, we are delighted to invite all BASIS families to join us for the 1st BASIS Swim Meet 2024. The BASIS Swim Meet aims at promoting sportsmanship, fostering teamwork, and encouraging children to embrace the spirit of Aquatics. The meet will be held on Saturday, May 18th, 2024 from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Come support our talented young swimmers and show our TUSKERS spirit!
Best regards,
Dr. W and Ms. Kwan

Library Corner:
Hello from BISB Library!
Firstly, I wanted to thank all of the amazing BISB Book club members, parents, and supporting students who turned out for our virtual author event with Misa Sugiura. It was lovely to see so many community members engaged and to come together with an author to talk about her writing process and books! Thank you as always for your support. I hope it will be the first of many author visits for our book clubs.
Secondly, in honor of Sherlock Holmes Day 2024, BISB Library would like to invite you to our first ever escape room: A MIDNIGHT MYSTERY!
Step back in time to 1924 where our silly scientists time-machine has had a breakdown, resulting in a lost piece of his machine. Solve the puzzles and find the machines missing piece before the time runs out – or be stuck in the 1920s forever!
This special after school event will be on Thursday, May 23rd from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. It is open to students of all ages (grades 3 and under require adult supervision). If you would like to participate with your student, please register for the escape room here: https://forms.gle/hwKZh2SCnRaezPmSA
When registering please select your desired time slot, but note that time changes may occur due to availability and the number of sign ups. Each registered student will be put into groups of 4-5 (and parents may assist while in the room).
While you wait for your escape room time, we will also have mystery stories and activities for students and parents to enjoy in the middle grade library space.
I look forward to seeing you all for this afternoon of mystery!
Please feel free to email me with any questions.
Thank you and happy reading,
Ms. Erika
Librarian

Dear Parents,
We cordially invite you to watch our dazzling primary production. This year, we are happy to present you with the show “Sir Tusker’s Dreamtacular Circus." The show features live music, energetic dance routines, and imaginative scenes led by our charismatic ringmasters and hilarious clowns, which were produced collaboratively by our performing arts and music departments with students from grades 1–5.
The Black Box theater transforms into our very own circus tent, with the audience surrounding the stage on all four sides, just like the real big top.
Show Date: Friday, May 31
Show Time: G1-2: 10:30-11:30 a.m. | G3-5: 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Note: Please note that the show will be the same performance for both rounds. We encourage parents to attend the show only for their student’s grade level. If you have students in both grade levels, you may choose either time.

PA Discovery Event:
BASIS Parent Association (PA) welcomed Dr. Atthasit Chokechanachaisakul, Minimally Invasive and Robotic Hepatobiliary Surgeon from Detroit Michigan who has recently led an information session on “Setting Goal on Medical School Overseas or in Thailand” for our G7-9 parents.
The session provided a wealth of information, with Dr. Atthasit offering his expertise on medical careers and emerging opportunities in the field. He emphasized that choosing a career should be driven by passion and genuine interest.
This is the first PA’s Discovery Event and the PA reps as well as school management would like to say thank you very much to our distinguished guest as well as parents who came to join. We hope to be able to organize more co-events like this in the future.
For those who missed the event, a summary of the presentation will be issued by email to G7-9 parents by our counseling office sometimes next week.
Support our teachers in their upcoming community performance:
The Essential Opera Company, in collaboration with Bangkok Community Theatre, presents Verdi’s masterpiece La Traviata, a dinner theatre performance at the British Club, Bangkok. Featuring renowned professional soloists, supported by a chorus drawn from the Bangkok classical music community, this intimate production has been designed to be accessible to all, enjoyed by anyone with a love for music and the stage, regardless of previous opera experience.
This sleek, modern production has been condensed down to around 90 minutes, accompanied by a three-course sit-down dinner, with a range of menu choices. Members and non-members alike are invited to enjoy the history and hospitality of the British Club, at its leafy downtown oasis on Silom Soi 18.
La Traviata ranks among the world’s most popular operas and recounts the heart-wrenching tale of courtesan Violetta and her whirlwind romance with Alfredo, as they navigate jealousy, betrayal, the expectations of Alfredo’s father, and the norms of Parisian high-society. Verdi’s timeless score combines classical music’s most well-known and uplifting vocal works with moments of tenderness, passion, anger, and darkness. The theatrical staging provides a feast for the senses, with party-scenes, a wild card game, a gypsy chorus and a spectacular matador’s dance!
