Message from Head of School & Head of Operations:
Dear TUSKERS families,
It is such a wonderful week to see all of the schoolwide activities. Our students amazed us with their exceptional talents during the "Blue All Over" Arts Electives Showcase and the "BASIS Performing Arts and ECA Showcase.” Each performance was truly captivating and memorable. It was enjoyable to see their skill progression and confidence on stage. Thank you to all teachers, staff and parents for your continuous support.
Today in our Early Years, our Kindergarten participated in an Expert Talk on the topic of "Human Body." This engaging session provided our students with the opportunity to learn from doctors and professionals. They covered many useful topics, from germs and bacteria to organs and dental health. Thank you, all the experts and Early Years teachers, for organizing this meaningful session.
On a reminder note, we are excited to invite all our BASIS families to the 2nd BASIS Football Festival happening tomorrow, Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Early Years Newsletter
Hello Early Years Families,
In America it is Mother’s Day on May 12 and as I wish and express gratitude to my own mother, allow me to extend the greeting Happy Mother’s Day to you. Mother’s Day is celebrated differently from family to family, but the spirit of the day remains the same. We honor that person we call “mom” for being that special person in our lives that sticks with us through thick and thin. My best wishes to all for a Happy Mother’s Day.
As we move into mid-May our focus continues to be on Academic and Social Emotional Learning. Teachers are continuously reflecting on lesson design and student growth and adapting strategies to ensure your child is able to understand concepts and master skills. I have been in classrooms witnessing double and triple digits addition, molding clay into the shape of different teeth, independent student games involving letter identification and fine motor skills, and so much more. Your children have grown by leaps and bounds this year and we are not finished yet!
Sincerely,
Ms. Annie Fletcher
Director of Early Years
Academic Spotlight :
The exciting hands-on learning experience the 6th graders participated in this week – the heart dissection lab.
During this lab, the students were guided through the exploration of the anatomy and function of the heart. Through careful dissection, the students had the opportunity to observe firsthand the structures of the heart, such as the atria, ventricles, and valves, and to understand how they work together to pump blood throughout the body. This activity provided a valuable opportunity for our students to apply their knowledge of biology in a practical setting, fostering a deeper understanding of the cardiovascular system. Additionally, the lab encouraged critical thinking skills, teamwork, and attention to detail as the students worked together to dissect and examine the heart. We believe that hands-on experiences like these not only enhance academic learning but also inspire curiosity and passion for science.
NJHS Fundraising Project
Members of the BISB NJHS and Ms. Selby had the golden opportunity to visit the Good Shepherd Sisters Mission to donate the funds raised during the NJHS Songkran Bake Sale and Fundraising Project. Students had the pleasure of meeting the director of the mission, Sister Louise, as well as witness the wonderful things the mission is doing to support the community.
The Good Shepherd Sisters Mission directly serves marginalized, underprivileged, and refugee population of both the Khlong Toei and Makkasan communities.
Some of the vocations of the mission in which NJHS students were able to observe include:
- Three meals provided daily to those in need
- Shelter for women and children
- Adult career and work skills center
- EY, Primary, and Upper School for refugees
- UN application services
- Nursery and daycare center for teenage mothers and their babies
The experience was very valuable for our students and we have kindled a relationship with a worthy cause. Looking forward to seeing what future projects and opportunities we have to support the Good Shepherd Sister's work as the BISB National Junior Honor Society.
